I am not a fan of CF props for filming duties, especially after they put me in the ER for 15 stitches when I had another drone try to fly away toward a crowd during a landing one night while shooting an assignment. I also feel they make the drone unnecessarily twitchy, which is good for FPV racing, but not so much for filming duties where you want smoother movements.
Does anyone know the blade pitch? I know they're 12" blades with the same thread pitch as Phantom 2/3 and 3DR Solo. I'd like to see if I can find some plastic replacements.
lonjsnyder will be the man to tell you about these as I know he has done some testing with carbon and plastic props. He said for video stabilisation carbon were best. Have a read of the thread below where lon put his video of the comparison.
I think the carbon fibre props are 1243 which is a pitch of 4.3 and the plastic ones are 1238 so has a pitch of 3.8. Don't quote me on the plastic pitch that's just from memory as I do not have any I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks for the info! Looks like he was also using "SF" or Slow Flyer type props. The ones I linked to are shaped more like the stock CF props that come on the SplashDrone, and they're also 4.5 pitch, so pretty close to our 4.3 stockers, if that is the case. I couldn't see enough of a difference between the plastic vs. CF in his video to warrant the increased risk in safety personally, but to each his own. Look forward to testing these out when they come in!
If its for safety reasons then I can see you point, it would be interesting to see the difference between the two types of props, as you say they are similar shape. I wonder if they will be slower rotating than the carbon ones or the same speed? Keep us updated as I'm keen to see how they perform.

Good news! Props finally came in (shipping took over a month) and they fit great, and look even better. Haven't flown it yet, but I don't foresee any issues. Will report back after I do fly them though.
Mine have not arrived yet so cannot comment yet!!!!
Oh wow. A Month later. I just checked the link and it says Sold Out in the upper corner of the photo. Maybe you should try contacting them?
Are the DJI props interchangeable - if so what model. I'm sure there must be plenty of props available for those units.
The SplashDrone does have the same threads as a DJI Phantom 2/3, but the issue is finding props big enough. The Phantoms use a 8" prop (I think) and our SD uses 12" long blades, so what you're looking for is a blade labeled as a "1243" (12" 4.3 pitch) or "1245" (12" 4.5 pitch). The ones I found and linked to up there are 1245, which is a tad more pitch than the stock CF blade's 4.3 pitch angle, but I figure with the plastic blade's tendency to flex more and be a bit less efficient than CF, it should equal out.
I've only flown on them once so far just testing, but my SD Pro seemed shaky and unstable with them, like the PIDs were cranked up too sensitive or something. I'm not convinced it was the blades, and I'm going to do some more testing with the plastic blades and stock CF blades back-to-back to see if it's got something to do with them or if the SD itself is in need of more tuning.
Did anyone else notice that in the Final Correction Solution for Splash Drone Auto document that it specifically says #1238 nylon props can be used? It seems people are trying 1245 just because they are close in pitch to 1243. Just curious if anyone has tried 1238s...

tyuyrt: Hello, I just installed a new GPS with lid - it only works when the lid and cable are dangling down the side of the drone; as soon as I close the lid the lights flash yellow red and green and I cannot take off. I'd appreciate any insights.
