Things have been going good with the SplashDrone lately. One issue I have been having and it has happened twice in the last 2 weeks. When I give the SplashDrone any throttle on the water the props will hit the water and unscrew sinking to the bottom of the lake. I tried to hand tighten them the second week and had the same result. I don't really want to use lock tight because I would like to remove them. I also wonder if the plastic blades float? Anyone else experience this?
Hi trey, are you using washers under your props? As stated in the final correction solution. I suppose they feel tight when fit them? Do you nip them up or fit them on loosely and let the motors tighten them?
I don't have plastic props so could not tell you if they float or not, sorry.
Trying to wrap my head around what is going on here, so pardon if these are dumb questions:
Why are the props hitting the water when you apply throttle?
Typically, when the self-tightening props hit something while being driven by the motors, like on a botched landing or flip on takeoff, the props are screwed down onto the motor even tighter than when they started, making them hard to remove. Why wouldn't that happen when they hit the water?
I'm thinking at some point during all of this, the motors are somehow stopping so quickly, that the prop's inertia is effectively unscrewing them from the motor. Then when you go to power up, the props fall off the motors because they are just sitting there on top of the motors, unscrewed, and fail to engage the threads before falling off. Is it possible you are landing in the water harshly? Maybe somehow the motors are getting so much water around/in them that they decel at a harder rate than normal, which is in return unscrewing your props. Just a theory.

tyuyrt: Hello, I just installed a new GPS with lid - it only works when the lid and cable are dangling down the side of the drone; as soon as I close the lid the lights flash yellow red and green and I cannot take off. I'd appreciate any insights.

chris: marksdrone: just had the same issue with mine. It may be the accelorometer that you need to calibrate first and then do the compass after that.
